Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVI/TAVR) is a groundbreaking medical procedure designed to treat aortic stenosis, a condition where the aortic valve becomes narrowed, hindering the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively. Traditionally, aortic valve replacement required open-heart surgery, but TAVI/TAVR offers a less invasive alternative. It involves inserting a new valve via a catheter, usually through an artery in the leg or chest, and positioning it within the diseased aortic valve, allowing for a faster recovery and reduced risks compared to traditional surgery.
Dr. Balbir Singh specializes in this advanced procedure, utilizing his expertise to provide patients with a safer, effective treatment option for aortic valve diseases. His proficiency in TAVI/TAVR highlights his commitment to incorporating innovative techniques in cardiac care, offering new hope to patients with complex heart conditions.
When meeting with an interventional cardiologist, the recommendation for surgery depends on various factors including the patient’s specific heart condition, the severity of the issue, overall health, and the effectiveness of non-surgical treatments. Interventional cardiologists are skilled in both surgical and non-surgical treatments and often explore all available options before recommending surgery. Their approach typically prioritizes the least invasive yet effective treatment to address the patient’s condition. Surgery is usually considered when other treatments have not been successful or when it is deemed the most effective course of action for the patient’s health and well-being.
MitraClip TMVr (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat mitral valve regurgitation, a condition where the mitral valve in the heart does not close properly, causing blood to flow backward. The procedure involves clipping together parts of the valve leaflets to reduce the regurgitation. Dr. Balbir Singh is an expert in this innovative technique, providing advanced treatment options for patients with this heart condition.
